Friends Group and Earth Day Planning Meeting, Tuesday, Feb 13th

Hello friends!

Our next friends group meeting is Tuesday, February 13, 7:00 pm at South Shore Park Pavilion.

We will continue planning for the 2018 Earth Day student education event at the park. The event brings more than 400 local elementary school students to the park in April to learn about our environment. This will be the 23rd year for the event. Please join us if you want to assist with planning or help on the day of the event.

Otherwise, come to the meeting to talk about what is happening at the Park or learn more about our friends group.

South Shore Beach Cleanup – July 23

Please join us Thursday July 23 at 5:30pm at South Shore Beach for our 3rd annual cleanup event with Alliance for the Great Lakes and Barefoot Wine.  See our flyer following the link for more information – SouthShoreBeachFlyer7.23.15

Thanks to all the fab volunteers that worked on our native plant garden on Nov. 8. We cut back trees shading out native plants, pulled out garlic mustard, and made room for the native lead plant, which should be a pretty purple come spring. And a special shout out to Brian Russart of Milwaukee County Parks who led us in our quest to provide habitat for migratory birds and increase biodiversity at South Shore.

Brian Russart of Milwaukee County Parks will join us on Nov. 8th for a work day on South Shore’s native plant garden. This is a great opportunity for neighbors to come out and learn some basic invasives identification, as well as learn what techniques can be used to keep invaders off your property. Wear gardening attire. See you there!

Meet in front of the South Shore Pavilion at 9 am. We will head over to the native restoration site along the bike path around 9:15. Just head south on the bike path from the playground. We’ll be easy to spot.

RSVP to southshoreparkwatch@yahoo.com so that we know how many tools to bring.
